DALI-2:
The Australian Standard
In 2020, Standards Australia adopted AS/NZS 62386, making DALI-2 the national benchmark for lighting control. This was the first and remains the only recognised lighting control standard in Australia.
DALI-2 improves on the original DALI protocol by allowing switches, sensors, and control devices to communicate over a single signal cable. This simplifies installations, reduces system complexity, and improves compatibility across brands.
Key Benefits
- Interoperability between devices
- Smarter system features
- Stricter compliance testing
A full list of the Australian standards can be viewed and purchased at the Standards Australia webstore or any other standards provider.

FAQs
What’s the difference between DALI and DALI-2?
DALI-2 is the latest version of the DALI lighting control standard. It builds on the original DALI with better device interoperability, smarter features like energy reporting and diagnostics, and stricter compliance testing. DALI-2 is also the only standard recognised in Australia under AS/NZS 62386. If you’re working on modern lighting projects, DALI-2 is what you need to know. You can find out more on the DALI Alliance website.
What support does Lumen Resources offer post-training?
Every course includes ongoing support for your projects — access to our support team, a trade account, and help with quoting, design checks and commissioning.
Does zencontrol work with other systems?
Yes. zencontrol is built on the open DALI-2 standard, so it works with any DALI-2 compliant product and integrates with BMS, AV and smart home systems.
Does your training cover other DALI systems?
The fundamentals apply to any DALI-2 system. Programming and commissioning modules use zencontrol, since that is the platform we distribute and support.
